One of the largest owners of bitcoins mysteriously died

One of the largest bitcoin owners in the world, Mircea Popescu, died under mysterious circumstances in Costa Rica, writes the publication Trustnodes.

According to preliminary data, the 41-year-old Pole went swimming in the ocean on June 23, where he was carried away by the current and drowned. The doctors who arrived at the scene found the body without signs of life, tried to resuscitate it, but could not.

In 2013, Popescu sold the SatoshiDice project for 125 thousand bitcoins, and he also owned the MPEx exchange for two years. The billionaire noted that bitcoin “is the most important project of mankind.” Popescu’s family does not have access to his digital assets and the accumulated bitcoins may disappear from the market forever. In 2016, according to unofficial data, there were about one million bitcoins on his accounts.
