On September 1, a giant asteroid may fall to Earth

Asteroid 2011 ES4 will fly by on September 1 near the Earth. This was reported on the website of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

According to the agency, the asteroid’s approach to Earth is expected at 03:12 CET time. A celestial body ranging in size from 22 to 49 m will approach the planet at a distance of about 120 thousand km. For comparison: the distance from the Moon to the Earth is 384.4 thousand km. The flight speed of a celestial body will be 8.16 km/s.

Asteroid 2011 ES4 was discovered on March 2, 2011. It belongs to the group of “Apollo” – asteroids in which the flight path intersects with the Earth’s orbit.
