The Prime Minister of Lithuania intends to resign because of the defeat in the elections. This politician told reporters, reports DELFI.
“I will file a resignation, and the government resigns,” said Saulius Skvernelis.
“Not going to the second round means that I do not have the trust of people that I can not lead the government,” — said DELFI Prime Minister.
He intends to resign on July 12.
Results of elections
Presidential elections were held in Lithuania on the eve, on Sunday. They were attended by 9 candidates. According to the latest data, the leader Ingrida Simonyte. She surpassed her closest competitor Gitanas Nauseda by 0.01%. 30.95% voted for Simonite, 30.94% – for Nauseda. Saulius Skvernyalis received 19.85% of the vote.
None of the presidential candidates managed to gain more than 50%.
The second round of elections will be held in two weeks, on May 26.
On May 12, two referendums were also held in Lithuania: on the reduction of the number of parliamentarians and the expansion of dual citizenship.
Both referendums were declared invalid due to low voter turnout.
