Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov said that he would not return to the UFC if he decides to leave the promotion.
Nurmagomedov is the champion of UFC in the lightweight division. The Russian fighter will hold his next fight with American Justin Gaethje on October 24 as part of the UFC 254 tournament.
“90 percent of athletes who finish their careers usually return. I don’t want to say that there may still be some moments, but if I finish my career, I will finish it. At this level, it won’t be easy to climb Olympus for the second time after retiring from the sport. Even if something happens later, it will be some revealing things. If I finish my performances in the UFC, I will not return to this promotion 100 percent,” Nurmagomedov said.
The fighter also commented on a possible rematch with Irishman Conor McGregor: “I’m not interested in this at all. I fight with a title contender ahead of me, and I don’t even think about Conor. I did everything I needed to do two years ago. I proved that as a competitor within the octagon, he could not offer me any resistance.”
At the moment, the 31-year-old Russian has won all 28 matches during his career. He is ranked second in the UFC rankings regardless of the weight category.
