North Macedonia became the 30th member of NATO

The country’s admission to the Alliance was preceded by a long process, which included changing its name.

NATO foreign Ministers on Thursday welcomed North Macedonia as a new member of the Alliance, ending a long process that included changing the country’s name.

“We welcome North Macedonia as the 30th member of NATO,” the Ministers said after a video conference in which the foreign Minister of North Macedonia became a full participant.
North Macedonia raised its flag over the NATO headquarters in Belgium earlier this week.

NATO members have signed an agreement to join the Alliance after a long-standing dispute with Greece over its name was resolved. Macedonia became known as North Macedonia.
