North Korea has sent a protest to the UN because of the arrest by US authorities of the vessel Wise Honest

The permanent representative of the DPRK to the UN Kim Sung protested in connection with the detention by the US authorities of the North Korean cargo ship Wise Honest. In a letter to the Secretary-General of the organization, António Guterres, the diplomat stressed that the seizure of a North Korean merchant ship was “an illegal and unacceptable act.”

“This act of alienation of property clearly showed that the United States is really a gangster country, which does not care about international law,” Kim Sung said. The letter also emphasizes that the actions of the United States “are an attack on the sovereignty of the people’s Republic, grossly violating the UN Charter.” The Secretary-General of the organization should “take urgent measures and thereby contribute to the stabilization of the situation on the Korean Peninsula.”

The fact that the US authorities arrested Wise Honest on charges of violating the international sanctions regime became known on May 9. Wise Honest was detained because of a warrant issued in the southern district of New York in July 2018. The US Justice Department reported that one of the largest bulk carriers in North Korea has been used for the illicit shipment of coal from the DPRK and delivery of heavy equipment into the country. Payments for maintenance, equipment, and upgrades to Wise Honest were made through US banks.
