Non-travel shutdown: Trump has canceled the visit of the American delegation at the forum in Davos

The US President Donald Trump has canceled the trip of the US government delegation to the world economic forum in Switzerland Davos. On January 10, the White House announced that Tramp will not be attended in WEF. The reason for this decision is the shutdown going on in America because of the budget crisis for 28 days. The Trump administration demands to allocate $5.7 billion for the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico, and the Democrats refuse to approve the financing of construction in such volume. Almost a month about 800 thousand civil servants do not get paid, and the decline in the US GDP growth accelerated to 0.1 percentage points per week. The International monetary Fund called on Washington to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.

“Out of respect for the 800,000 great American workers who don’t get paid, and so that his team can provide the necessary assistance, President Trump has canceled his delegation’s trip to the world economic in Swiss Davos,” the White House press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.

Initially, the US delegation to Davos was to be headed by Trump himself, but on January 10 he canceled the trip to the WEF and apologized to the organizers of the forum. Later, on January 15, the White House reported a reduction in the number of delegations, which were to include Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin, Secretary of state Mike Pompeo, trade Minister Wilbur Ross, the US trade representative Robert Lightheiser and others. Now the visit of the government delegation has been completely cancelled.

A year ago, the presence of the US delegation in Davos was also in question because of the shutdown. However, then the suspension of the Federal government lasted only three days, and the congressmen eventually managed to settle with the Executive budget disagreements.
This time, Republicans and Democrats have taken a much more intransigent position.

Another” victim” of the budget crisis was the speaker of the Lower House of Congress Nancy Pelosi: her official visit to Belgium, Egypt and Afghanistan, the US President postponed indefinitely.

“I regret to inform you that in connection with the shutdown your trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan has been postponed. We have this seven-day trip when the shutdown will end,” — said in Trump’s letter to Pelosi.

According to the American leader, it would be more useful for the speaker of the House of Representatives to spend this time in Washington to participate in negotiations with the US President and “join the movement for enhanced border protection”.

“Of course, if you decide to travel by commercial airlines, it will be your prerogative,” Trump added.

The US President continues to insist that only a barrier on the southern border of the country can change the situation with illegal migration, as well as related problems of drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
