Named temporary head of the Pentagon

US Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer will temporarily take the post of head of the Pentagon, reports the Military Times, citing a representative of the US Defense Department.

It is noted that the main applicant for this position is Mark Esper, but according to the law, while his candidacy is considered in the Senate, he can not head the Department. The new head of the Pentagon should be appointed before the end of July, the newspaper writes.

Former Pentagon chief James Mattis has decided to leave office on December 21, 2018. The reason for the dismissal, he called the differences with the American leader Donald Trump.

Patrick Shanahan was appointed acting Minister of defense in January 2019. Previously, he served as first Deputy head of the Pentagon and was Vice President of Boeing Corporation. Shanahan decided not to continue the process of approval as a permanent Minister. The reason for the refusal was the desire to devote more time to the family.
