Google has extended the policy of working from home until the end of 2020. The CEO of the company, Sundar Pichai, told employees that while the company is officially operating remotely until June 1. However, in his letter he indicated that this measure would be extended until the end of the year. This became known to The Verge.
According to Pichai, employees whose work requires a physical presence in the office will be allowed to work either in June or July, but with increased security measures. However, each such case will require a “valid reason”.
The publication notes that for most Google employees, work at home will be the norm until the end of the year. The company began advising employees on work at home in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic in early March.
Google is not the only large company that asks employees to stay home until the end of the year. Facebook made a similar statement, citing information from the Center for Disease Control and government recommendations. The Verge notes that large technology giants may be followed by small companies.
