Mnuchin: helping airlines will be the government’s “next big step”

The Finance Minister said that negotiations with airlines will begin soon.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Thursday that helping airlines will be the “next big step” after the Federal Reserve announced new credit incentives for medium-sized businesses and municipal bonds.
Speaking on CNBC, Mnuchin said he would report to President Donald Trump on the progress of negotiations with airlines on Thursday afternoon.

“We hope to bring preliminary information to a large number of airlines, starting tomorrow and over the weekend, “he said.” Our goal, as I have already said, is not to allocate anti-crisis assistance, but to make sure that airlines have the means to retain employees. So this is our next big step.”
