Military robots continue their mission even if the connection is lost

Scientists from the United States a communication technique for military robots that helps them complete tasks without an instructor. Devices also remember their targets during missions.

Researchers from the United States have developed a technique that allows robots to continue to operate on the battlefield even if communication with them is lost.

This technique provides an efficient method for distributing tasks among several robots, and in some cases, they change their task if they are heading to the same territory. This could include unmanned search and rescue, robotic reconnaissance, perimeter surveillance, and the detection of physical phenomena such as radiation.

“Robots that work in teams need a method that reinforces tasks, even if they are not constantly coming in. When all robots communicate with each other, there are many methods to help the devices keep working. But when robots need constant coordination, then the military can use our method, “- said researchers from the University of Nebraska.

Coordination of the robot is achieved by exchanging tasks between devices and the fact that the robot remembers information for a long time. In this case, other robots can ask if the device will perform this task without having to communicate with the coordinator. If no signals come back, then it will not stop the previous task.

The robot that learns the task is based on the topology of the wireless communication network and the geometric arrangement of the robots. Each robot is assigned a token representing a specific area for which they cache target locations.
