Argentina’s national football team beat Ecuador 1-0 in their home match of the first round of the 2022 South American World Cup qualifier.
The only scored goal was scored by Lionel Messi, who converted a penalty in the 13th minute. He caught up with Uruguayan Luis Suarez in the number of goals in the South American qualifiers. Now the attackers have 22 goals each.
In the next match, the Argentines on Tuesday will play away with the Bolivian team, and the Ecuadorians will host the Uruguayan national team.
The qualifiers in South America are held in a round-robin format, with each team playing 18 matches. Four national teams will go directly to the finals of the World Cup. The fifth team will take part in the intercontinental play-offs. The World Championship will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
