The Russian authorities are doing a lot to “weaken, destabilize the EU countries and its closest neighbors”. The Chairman of the Christian democratic Union (CDU) and possibly future Chancellor of Germany Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said at ZDF television.
Such actions should be clearly responded to, the politician stressed. According to her, the members of the European Union should “stick together”. In addition, Krump-Karrenbauer criticized the European populist parties that receive support from Moscow.
Nord stream – 2 and Ukraine’s interests
The CDU Chairman did not ignore the topic of the construction of the Nord stream — 2 gas pipeline. Krump-Karrenbauer described it as “a difficult project” and stressed that the construction must “take into account the interests of security of both Ukraine and other countries in the region”.
The gas pipeline, which is being built by a number of Russian and European companies, should be laid along the Baltic Sea in parallel with the existing Nord stream. The works are planned to be completed in 2019.
