Merkel will propose to ban Britons from entering the EU because of COVID-19

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will discuss on Monday with her European colleagues a proposal to ban entry to the territory of the European Union from the UK against the background of the spread of the COVID-19 “delta” strain in this country, the Times newspaper reports.

According to the newspaper, Merkel intends to declare the UK a “country of concern” in this regard. It is noted that the entry ban will also apply to persons who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the newspaper, the proposal will meet resistance from Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Malta, and Portugal during the discussion. The newspaper adds that next Friday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will meet with Merkel and try to persuade her to reconsider this decision.
