OSAKA – The Chancellor also expressed hope that the US and China will make progress in settlement of the trade conflict.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that she discussed at the meeting with the President of the United States Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G20 summit the possibility of launching the negotiation process on Iran. Her words are quoted on Friday by the press service of the German Cabinet.
“I held a bilateral meeting with the American President. At the same time, trade issues were discussed, but first of all, the situation in Libya and in the Sahel zone, of course, topics related to Iran – for example, the question of how to come to the negotiation process, in support of which I very actively spoke,” Merkel said. “As before, the situation [around Iran] is very tense,” the Chancellor stated.
Regarding the work on the G20, Merkel noted that, in particular, the topic of WTO reform was discussed. Merkel also expressed the hope that on the sidelines of the summit, the US and China will make progress in resolving the trade conflict between them.
