In particular, restrictions on the number of visitors to restaurants, shops, and gyms have been lifted.
At a press conference, the governor explained that he was lifting restrictions on the number of visitors to restaurants, bars, shops, gyms, and similar establishments and the number of employees in offices. Simultaneously, restrictions on the maximum number – no more than 50% of the room capacity – will apply to such large venues where a large number of people gather, such as conference centers, stadiums, and cinemas. At the same time, residents of the state are still required to wear protective masks and observe social distancing. “A very simple step – wearing masks is still the best and only strategy to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Hogan said. The authorities of localities and counties of the state, he continued, are allowed to introduce stricter rules.
“The most important thing is that we have kept the requirements for wearing protective masks and distancing ourselves. We think that removing the restrictions while maintaining these rules is a safer approach, ” the governor said, referring to the state authorities that have abolished the requirement to wear protective masks. He added that lifting the restrictions is a “prudent, positive step in the right direction” made possible by increasing the rate of vaccination, as well as reducing the incidence and hospitalization due to COVID-19 infection.
“It’s time to get people back to work,” Hogan said, pointing out that he is trying to find a balance between the state’s economic recovery and the health care sector.
Earlier, the authorities of the states of Wyoming, Mississippi, and Texas, which Republicans lead, decided to cancel the mandatory wearing of medical masks. The US President, Democrat Joe Biden, criticized the lifting of such restrictions.
According to Johns Hopkins University, which conducts calculations based on information from federal and local authorities, more than 29 million cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the United States, 527.6 thousand people have died. The country ranks first in the world in both indicators.
