The President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro has accused the assistant to the President for national security John Bolton in the development of plans for his overthrow and murder. The politician said this on Wednesday at a press conference in Caracas, which is broadcast on Twitter by the Venezuelan leader.
“Mr. Bolton was put in charge of the plan for the coup d’état, the assassination of Nicolas Maduro and the establishment of the Council of the transitional government,” Maduro said. In his opinion, Bolton for these purposes maintains contacts” with the Venezuelan far-right”, as well as “turned Colombia into a base for operations to implement these crazy and hateful plans.”
“There is a plan approved by John Bolton to train mercenaries who will mislead our Armed forces at the border to confuse public opinion and justify the attack on Venezuela. The government of Colombian President Ivan Duque is an accomplice to his plan to unleash violence in our country,” Maduro said.
He invited the US Congress to investigate Bolton’s “terrorist plans” against his country. “The statement which I consider I am making to be very serious. John Bolton leads a terrorist and interventionist plan against Venezuela, and if there was justice in the US, Congress and the press would have to investigate it, — said the politician. “These are not empty words.”
The Venezuelan leader also said that the Armed forces of his country should always be ready to “guarantee stability, integrity and peace in the country in the face of any threat, whatever its name and from wherever it comes.”
In addition, Maduro has once again held the United States responsible for the failed attempt to assassinate him in August. “The US remain silent, characteristic of the accomplices of the conspiracy,” he said.
Appeal to Trump
During the press conference, Nicolas Maduro also called on the President of the United States Donald Trump to normalize bilateral relations.
“I urge the US, including the President Donald Trump, to turn the page of our history full of conspiracies. I hope that one day we will have normal relations with this country, we will persistently seek dialogue and respect,” Maduro said.
The Venezuelan leader also noted that his country is ready for dialogue with the United States. “President Trump, we can discuss what you want, where you want and when you want,” Maduro added.
In early September, the New York Times reported that employees of the Trump’s administration held secret meetings with the rebel military from Venezuela, where they discussed the possibility of overthrowing Maduro.
The Venezuelan leader once again urged the United States to abandon subversive activities against Venezuela. “The US government must stop its campaigns and plans against peace in Venezuela,” he said.
The accusations against the American media
Maduro claims that the US media published more than 4 thousand negative news about Venezuela from January to December. “90 American media published more than 4142 negative news about Venezuela from January 1 to December 8 this year,” the politician said.
According to him, the US government continues “the campaign against democracy in Venezuela”. “It [the campaign] is also aimed at creating conditions that justify any actions that the US government takes against the legitimate institutions of power and peace on Venezuelan soil,” Maduro added.
The internal problems of Venezuela
The Venezuelan President stressed that his country would solve its own internal problems. “The problems of Venezuelans are our problems, and we, Venezuelans, will solve them ourselves,” Maduro said.
He also added that Venezuela “will not kneel and will not surrender”. “Venezuela will continue with the construction of peace and democracy. Let the American Empire know about it!”- said the politician.
Venezuela has been experiencing an acute socio-economic crisis in recent years, accompanied by the devaluation of the national currency and hyperinflation. According to the Parliament, inflation from January to October this year amounted to about 287 000%, and year-on-year price growth exceeded 833 000%. The IMF forecasts that inflation may reach 1 000 000% by the end of the year. Data of the Central Bank of Venezuela on the inflation rate has not been published for several years.
