Mads Mikkelsen in a recent interview with The Sunday Times admitted that he was a little worried about the situation with the role of the wizard Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts.
Johnny Depp was forced out of the franchise after the divorce scandal with Amber Heard, in which both sides were generous with recriminations. The Hannibal star received an offer to replace Depp almost immediately after his dismissal and quickly agreed, since no one wanted to delay the filming process.
However, Mads regrets that he was unable to talk to Johnny about his character, since the stars are casually familiar:
“I had no personal interest in the role. And I don’t know if it was fair how he lost his job. I would love to talk to him about this situation, but I don’t know him that well. The producers called me, they were clearly in a hurry, but I liked the script and I agreed. This point has become controversial for many, but sometimes it happens. ”
According to Mikkelsen, he will not try to surpass Grindelwald Depp, he will simply present his own take on the image of an evil wizard. At the same time, he is not going to give up completely on the developments of his predecessor, creating rather a bridge between the two incarnations of the fairy-tale character.
Recall that the premiere of the third part of “Fantastic Beasts” is scheduled for July 14, 2022.
