Macron urged to build a new partnership between Europe and the United States

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for building a new clear partnership between Europe and the United States, emphasizing the need for European sovereignty.

“You have always heard that I have defended this concept of European sovereignty, which I believe in,” Macron said at a press conference on Thursday ahead of the G7 summit and the NATO summit.

He stressed that the European Union needs to build a framework for its strategic autonomy in economic, industrial, technological, and military terms.

“For me, the first goal is for our partners to recognize this new data in Europe and for us to be able to build a new partnership with the United States. A partnership based on values, but it must also be clear, and this implies that we ourselves must build our relations with our neighbors,” the French leader said.

He noted that Europe should be attentive to its collective sovereignty. According to him, Europe should have independence when it comes to relations with China, in relations with Russia, Turkey, and responsibility when it comes to the Balkans, the Mediterranean, or the African continent.
