In the coming weeks, the French President Emmanuel Macron will make a speech, which should be a “warning shot” for Europe, FREE NEWS reported, citing sources surrounded by the French President.
“Macron in his speech will characterize “Brexit” as a wake – up call and tell that Europe should be more assertive in the face of competing world powers,” the Agency writes.
“This is a critical time,” a source close to Macron told to Reuters. “If we, the Europeans, do not want a repetition of “Brexit” and do not want to fall into the trap of naive protection of the status quo, we must wake up,” he continued.
Officially, the Macron’s administration said that the speech will be delivered in late February or early March, although the exact date and place have not yet been fixed.
“He will not comment on the negotiations or suggest any “Macron’s plan” to solve the problem. The idea is to learn from “Brexit”, “the source explained. It will also aim to convince his European colleagues to start thinking of the EU as a tougher geopolitical player in a ruthless world.
“Europe does not understand how to behave in a cruel world,” the source concluded.
The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, said that there may be a special place in hell for those who advocated the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union, but did not think about how to safely hold it. “It would be interesting to see what this special place in hell looks like for those who promoted Brexit without even having a rough idea of how to do it safely,” Tusk wrote on his Twitter page on February 6.
