Launch of the ship Elon Musk with astronauts: online broadcast

An event unprecedented for the global space industry: for the first time in history today, May 27, 2020, the private spacecraft Elon Musk Crew Dragon will go to the ISS with astronauts Bob Benken and Doug Hurley on board. SpaceX will launch the Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Cape Canaveral. Crew Dragon flights may violate the Roskosmos monopoly on the delivery of astronauts to the ISS. We broadcast the launch online.

So far, no private company has arranged a manned space flight. And for 11 years, the United States has not delivered astronauts to the ISS – since it curtailed the Atlantis shuttle program (among the reasons is the too high cost of launches). People at the International Space Station were delivered by our Unions.

Soyuz cosmonaut delivery cost NASA $86 million. In the event of a successful launch of Crew Dragon with astronauts, NASA will opt for SpaceX.

If the ship has problems, it is planned to evacuate the astronauts with the help of a capsule with engines, which should be parachuted into the ocean. Start-up may be delayed due to inappropriate weather.

Recall that earlier in the tests two Falcon 9 rocket explosions occurred. At the same time, last spring Crew Dragon docked with the ISS in unmanned mode.

In addition to the project with NASA, the Musk company intends to engage in space tourism and launching satellites for Internet distribution (this project has already started), to participate in programs of the lunar space program. And the idea-fix of Ilon Mask himself is the exploration of Mars. The deadlines set by the Mask – sending a truck to Mars in two years, people – not earlier than in 2024.

Well, the current docking of Crew Dragon with the ISS should take place 19 hours after the launch. At the launch, Donald Trump promised to attend.
