In a new interview with The Observer, Kate Winslet spoke a little about the second part of Avatar’s underwater filming. The actress had to train for several weeks to stay underwater long enough.
“It was just wonderful. [Underwater] the mind is completely shut off. You can’t think about anything. You can’t make lists in your head – you watch the bubbles in front of you. When I surfaced, my first words were, “Am I dead?” I really thought I was dead, “ Winslet said.
She also noted that she trained before diving with her husband, Ned Rocknroll. “I need someone close by. Ned worked with me and was also good at holding his breath. True, he lost consciousness once, ” the actress shared.
Earlier it became known that on Avatar 2, Kate managed to hold her breath underwater for 7 minutes and 14 seconds. Thus, Winslet broke Tom Cruise’s record, who, while working on “Mission: Impossible: Outcast Tribe”, held out underwater for 6 minutes.
The actress did not immediately find out about this: “I am not on Instagram. You can say that I am completely cut off from this part of life. But over the past week, people began to approach me: “Oh my God, 7 minutes and 14 seconds? How is this possible ?! “
In a comment to ET-Online, Winslet admitted that she is pleased to beat Tom Cruise, but she is not sure if she can do it again. “It was great, I was very proud of myself, but it is unlikely that it will work out again. I did it after four weeks of intense training, ” the star said and added that developing new skills is her favourite part of the acting profession.
