Argentine specialist Jorge Sampaoli has been appointed head coach of Marseille, according to the official website of the French football club.
Sampaoli signed a contract with Marcel until June 2023. The last place of work of the 60-year-old specialist, who previously led the national teams of Chile and Argentina, was the Brazilian Atletico Mineiro. At the head of the team, Sampaoli replaced Nasser Lagre, who was acting head coach after the Portuguese Andre Villas-Boas’ resignation.
It is also noted that Pablo Longoria, who previously held the post of sports director, has been appointed the new president of Marseille. The owner of the club, American businessman Frank McCourt, will soon arrive in France to meet with the fan movement leaders and try to resolve the conflict.
At the end of January, Fans of Marseille made a breakthrough to the club’s training base, using pyrotechnic products. As a result of the incident, several trees were damaged at the base entrance, and football player Alvaro Gonzalez was injured. The match of the 22nd round of the French championship Marseille – Rennes was postponed indefinitely.
Marseille, after 25 games, has 38 points to its credit and takes seventh place in the standings.
