In Amman believe that only a political settlement will ensure the independence and territorial unity of Syria.
Achieving a political settlement in Syria on the basis of UN security Council resolution 2254 is a strategic goal of Jordan. This, as reported by the Agency of Peter, said on Tuesday the foreign Minister of the Kingdom Ayman as-Safadi at a joint press conference with the US Secretary of state Michael Pompeo, who arrived in Amman as part of a regional tour.
As as-Safadi stressed, Jordan “will work to achieve a political solution to the Syrian crisis together with Russia, the United States and the international community.” “Only a political settlement will ensure the independence and territorial unity of Syria, will bring security and stability to the Syrians, and will also contribute to the return of refugees to their homeland and the withdrawal of all foreign troops,” the Jordanian foreign Minister said.
He also pointed to the importance of resuming the “positive Arab role” in Syria, which, according to him, will help restore the country and “return Damascus to its place in the Arab policy.”
As reported by the Agency, the US Secretary of state was received in Amman by king Abdullah II. They discussed issues of bilateral strategic military partnership. Pompeo stressed that Jordan took an active part in the international coalition under the auspices of the United States, which, according to him, defeated the terrorist group “Islamic state”.
