President Joe Biden met with lawmakers from both parties on Wednesday to discuss cancer treatment, saying the world is “on the verge of a real breakthrough” in the fight against cancer.

Responding to reporters’ questions before the meeting, which was held at the White House, Biden stressed that cancer is still “the most frightening word in the English language.” According to the president, the application of new approaches to research in oncology can lead to a real revolution in the fight against cancer and other diseases.

“We can make significant strides in the fight against cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other diseases if we take a slightly different approach,” Biden said, without elaborating, “I think we are on the verge of some real breakthroughs in the fight against cancer.”
