Jeff Bezos’ company opens online bidding for space flight

Blue Origin has launched an online auction for a raffle for one passenger seat aboard the reusable New Shepard suborbital spacecraft, which is scheduled to fly on July 20.

“The New Shepard spacecraft will fly into space on July 20 with the first team of astronauts. We are offering one seat on this flight to the winner of the Blue Origin online auction,” the communique reads.

To apply for a “ticket,” you are invited to go to the company’s website. As noted, the auction will consist of three parts. During the first of them, from May 5 to May 19, anyone can apply. These bids, as well as the specified amounts, will not be visible to other bidders. This data will be released on May 19. After that, those who wish to continue bidding must offer a price that exceeds the maximum bid of the first stage. The final fate of the only passenger seat will be determined on June 12 during online bidding in real-time.

Blue Origin has conducted 15 test flights of the New Shepard spacecraft, the last of them in mid-April.
