Japanese Prime Minister to visit the US in May

Then expected return visit of Donald Trump.

The Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe will be visiting the United States in May. Then expected visit of the President of the United States Donald trump in Japan. This was stated on Friday by Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono at a joint press conference with US Secretary of state Michael Pompeo, acting US defense Minister Patrick Shanahan and Japanese defense Minister Takeshi Ivaya following a meeting in Washington in the format of “two plus two”.

“Japanese Prime Minister Abe will visit the US next month, President Trump is expected to go on a visit to Japan and become the first official guest after our new Emperor takes the throne,” Taro Kono said.

Emperor Naruhito of Japan will ascend to the throne on May 1 after the abdication of his father Akihito. Since it is a state visit, Trump will be awarded an audience with an Imperial couple of Japan. Thus, he will be the first foreign leader to meet the new Emperor.

Trump’s last visit to Japan took place in November 2017.
