In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched an artillery strike.
Six shells were fired from Lebanon towards Israel, but they did not manage to cross the border. This was stated by the Israeli military. They added that the target of retaliatory Israeli artillery strikes were “sources of rocket launches” in Lebanon.
A Lebanese security source said that shots were heard in the south of the country during the shelling of Israeli territory and that the security services took measures to identify the place from which the shelling was carried out. The source added that the Israeli artillery fired about 22 shells in response.
A representative of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that the rocket attack occurred in the Rachaya al-Foukhar area in southern Lebanon.
“The head of UNIFIL immediately contacted his colleagues in the Lebanese Army and the IDF command, urging the parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent an escalation. The IDF has stopped firing,” UNIFIL said in a tweet. – The situation in this area is now calm.”
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
This is the second incident that occurred at the border. Last Thursday, three rockets were launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel. They fell into the Mediterranean Sea, without causing harm.
