Participants of the rally came with Israeli flags and posters with slogans against anti-Semitism.
About two dozen people are holding a pro-Israel event in New York’s Times Square on Sunday, where police prevented clashes between them and pro-Palestinian protesters on Thursday.
Participants of the rally came with Israeli flags and posters with slogans against anti-Semitism. Next to them is a man with the flag of Palestine. There are no conflicts between them yet, and there are no additional police forces in the area of the actions.
On Thursday, at the same place, law enforcement officers had to prevent clashes between participants of rallies in support of Palestine and support of Israel. The situation escalated after a young man with Jewish roots was beaten up near the main square of the metropolis by allegedly pro-Palestine demonstrators. Soon after, two groups of several dozen people each met in Times Square. The police formed a cordon between them, but when they started throwing plastic bottles at each other, they pushed back those who were pro-Palestine. Several people were detained. On Sunday, social networks, which traditionally post information about plans for protest actions, reported that a repeat of this situation is possible due to plans to hold new rallies in Times Square in support of both Palestinians and Israelis. However, the situation is calm so far.
