IOC: all support programs related to the Olympics, extended to 2021

All Olympic programs of solidarity and support for athletes associated with the Summer Games in Tokyo will be extended to 2021 after the postponement of the Olympics, according to the website of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Athletes ‘ Commission.

On Monday, the IOC and the Tokyo Games organizing Committee officially announced new dates for the 2021 Olympics and Paralympic Games in the Japanese capital. The Olympic Games will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, and the Paralympic Games will be held from August 24 to September 5. The games were postponed from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As noted in the release, the IOC Athletes ‘ Commission fully supports the approval of new dates for the Games, as this “will give all athletes confidence, as well as allow them to focus on their health and overcoming the pandemic.”
