The head of the Turkish Defense Ministry, Hulusi Akar, said that the country would use Russian S-400 systems to threaten threats and danger.
He called the anti-aircraft missile systems a matter of Turkish sovereignty. Hulusi Akar recalled that for 10 years, Turkey had requested air defense systems from the United States, but “no response has been received.”
“We have repeated dozens of times: there will be no damage from the S-400 to anyone. They will be used in the event of threats and danger,”Akar said, his words were broadcast on NTV.
He also stressed Turkey’s readiness to use Russian complexes regardless of NATO systems.
Deliveries of Russian S-400 air defense systems began in mid-July, causing a misunderstanding in relations between Turkey and the United States. In Turkey, it was stated that the C-400 would be fully operational in April 2020. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and instead purchase American Patriot systems, otherwise threatening to delay or cancel the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions. Ankara refused to make concessions.
