The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world exceeded 116.87 million, increasing more than 326 thousand per day. According to data published on Tuesday by the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of deaths increased by more than 6.5 thousand, exceeding 2.59 million.

On March 9, WHO received information about 116,874,912 infected and 2,597,381 dead. The number of infected people increased by 326,990, and the number of deaths increased by 6,573.

WHO statistics only take into account officially confirmed information on cases of infection and death provided by States.

More than 46% of the cases reported to WHO over the past day are in North and South America (153,120), followed by Europe (107,059) and the Eastern Mediterranean (31,859).

The United States has the most confirmed cases with 28,700,966, followed by India (11,244,786), Brazil (11,019,344), Russia (4,342,474), the United Kingdom (4,223,236), France (3,841,709), Spain (3,160,970), Italy (3,081,368), Turkey (2,793,632), Germany (2,509,445), Colombia (2,276,656) and Argentina (2,154,694).
