A cartridge with the Super Mario Bros. video game from 1986 was sold at Heritage Auctions for a record $ 660,000, the auction house said on its Twitter page.
According to a statement from Heritage Auctions, this amount of sales of the 1986 video game beats the previous record – in 2020, an anonymous buyer gave 114 thousand dollars for a Super Mario Bros. game copy. Also, the final price of the 1986 cartridge broke the world record for video game sales.
It is noted that the cartridge is preserved in perfect condition in a sealed plastic package. According to the Associated Press, the video game was purchased as a Christmas gift but remained in the drawer where it was found in early 2021.
Super Mario Bros. game was first released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console in the United States and became the best-selling for it. This model is the first in a series of video games about Super Mario Bros. Also, the main negative character of the game – Bowser-appears in it for the first time.
