In the US, more than 70 police officers quit after storming the Capitol

More than 70 Capitol police officers resigned after the events of January 6, when a crowd of supporters of former US President Donald Trump trashed the Capitol, according to the publication Politico, citing the police union.

The chairman of the Capitol Police Union, Gus Papathanasiou said that the police officers, who face the prospect of longer working days and the traumatic consequences of the events of January and the April incident, are demoralized and are looking for a way out of this situation.

“It’s not the problem of hiring and training new police officers that keep me up at night, it’s the retention of the police officers that we have now … a lot of police officers are hesitant to stay in this department,” Papathanasiou said.
