A record increase in the number of people infected with the new coronavirus was recorded over the past day in the United States. According to data published on the Johns Hopkins University website on Saturday, 83,757 new infections were detected in the country in 24 hours.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper emphasizes that the daily number of new infection cases in the country has been growing for five consecutive days. Before this, the highest rate was recorded on July 16, when the infection was detected in 77,362 people.
The highest infection rates are observed mainly in the States of the Midwest, as well as in the South and West of the United States. So, record numbers in recent days were recorded in Colorado, Indiana, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Utah. The incidence is increasing in Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Alaska during the week.
According to Johns Hopkins University, almost 8.5 million cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the United States, and more than 224,000 people have died. The country ranks first in the world in both indicators.
