In the US, a car crashed into participants of a gay pride parade

One person was killed and one was injured as a result of a pickup truck hitting participants of a gay pride parade in the suburbs of Miami, reports WPLG Local 10, citing local authorities.

According to the TV channel, the incident occurred in the city of Wilton Manors. It is reported that the pickup truck ran over two people who were going to join the gay pride parade. One of them was killed, the second was hospitalized. The victim is in critical condition.

Police arrested the driver of the pickup truck. It is not known whether the hit-and-run was intentional: the TV channel, citing eyewitnesses, and claims that the detainee called the incident an accident.

According to Dean Trantalis, the mayor of the nearby city of Fort Lauderdale, who was present at the parade, the pickup truck almost hit Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, a congresswoman from Florida, who drove the car to the parade.

“This is a terrorist attack against the LGBT community… It was directed against a specific person. Fortunately, they (the driver) did not hit this person, but unfortunately, they ran over two other people,” Trantalis said. The organizers had to cancel the parade.
