In India, another anti-record of mortality from coronavirus is set

Over the past day, another anti-record of mortality from coronavirus was broken in India. The victims of this infection in 24 hours were 3780 people. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 226,188 people infected with COVID-19 have died in this country. In the last 24 hours, 382,315 new cases of the coronavirus have been identified, the Times of India reports.

The situation with the incidence of coronavirus in India is one of the most difficult in the world. According to the number of detected cases, the country ranks second (more than 20.6 million infections).

In addition, a special strain of coronavirus is circulating in India, which, according to preliminary data, is more contagious and resistant to antibodies that have appeared in those who have been ill. The opposition demands to introduce a new nationwide lockdown, but the Indian authorities are in no hurry to take such tough measures. According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this measure will be disastrous for the economy, so it should be taken only as a last resort. The state authorities themselves should make decisions on lockdowns and quarantines. Some of them have already decided to introduce restrictions of varying degrees of rigidity.
