In France, the number of victims of the coronavirus exceeded five thousand

The number of deaths from coronavirus in hospitals in France exceeded 5 thousand people, 588 people died in a day, said on Friday the head of the General Directorate of the health of the country, Jerome Salomon.

“Since March 1, 5,091 people have died in hospitals,” Solomon said at a briefing. He noted that 83% of the deceased were over the age of 70.

He also said that 1,416 people have died in nursing homes since March 1. Thus, the total number of deaths in France is 6,507, he said.

According to Solomon, more than 14,000 people have recovered and left hospitals.

More than 27 thousand patients are in hospitals, 6662 people are in intensive care in a serious condition. The 93 patients who are in intensive care are under 30 years of age, added Solomon.

The total number of people infected with coronavirus in France is 64,338. This is more than 5,000 cases more than 24 hours ago.

On Thursday, 4,503 deaths and 59,105 cases of COVID-19 were reported in France.

The coronavirus epidemic in France has entered the third stage. According to the decision of the authorities, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and non-food stores are closed in the country. Since March 17, strict restrictions on the movement of people have been introduced. The French authorities extended the self-isolation regime until April 15. However, it may be extended again.
