Police arrested three alleged organizers of the rally, the participants of which decapitated the doll depicting President Emmanuel Macron during a demonstration of the movement of the “yellow vests” in the city of Angouleme in South West France. This was reported on Friday by the newspaper Sud-Ouest.
According to it, two men and a woman appeared at the police station on Friday morning for questioning. On the basis of interviews with the police, a decision was made on their provisional detention. The lawyer of the detainees Me Pierre-Henri Bovi said that his clients are ready to apologize, but stressed that they “did not provoke unrest” and used their right to participate in the demonstration.
The incident took place on December 21 during demonstrations in Angouleme, held as part of the national day of protests “yellow vests” — dissatisfied with the rise in prices and the fact that the state does not take appropriate measures to combat poverty. On one of the squares of the city that day about 50 demonstrators played the scene of the trial of the President and pronounced him a “death sentence”. After that, they cut off the head of the mannequin, which was attached to the photo of the head of state, and then burned it.
The Prosecutor’s office of the city of Angouleme initiated on Thursday an investigation into the case of imitation of “yellow vests” execution of President Emmanuel Macron. Participants of the action are suspected of violating the law under the articles “Provoking to commit a crime” and ” Grave insult”.
