In China, they released an analog of Tesla and sell it for $4,500

The Chinese budget electric car Hong Guang Mini EV became the best-selling in the country, overtaking the Tesla Model 3. The BBC reports.

The Chinese decided to abandon the purchase of Tesla in favor of a domestic electric car because of its low price. Hong Guang Mini EV costs 4,5 thousand dollars (Tesla — 39 thousand dollars). Its sales were twice as high as that of its American competitor. However, experts note that the Chinese electric car lags behind Tesla in some parameters (power reserve, battery, performance).

To boost demand for electric vehicles, the Chinese government is offering free and guaranteed license plates. Due to its popularity in China, the Hong Guang Mini EV became the second best-selling electric car globally, behind only the Tesla Model 3.

Earlier, Chinese regulators summoned Tesla representatives to talk about the quality and safety of the company’s cars after customer complaints. For example, they were concerned about failures when driving an electric car and a battery fire. Tesla offered to improve the management of cars and comply with Chinese laws and protect the rights of consumers.
