China has announced the launch of seven laboratories by 2026 that will work with the most dangerous pathogens. One of them should appear in the Harbin region, near the Russian-Chinese border. She will deal with zoonotic infections, which include the coronavirus that caused the current pandemic.
Now there is one laboratory in China – the Wuhan one. She will be the main one among the network of research centers and will also be responsible for international cooperation, in particular with WHO. Seven others will share the research.

The program was created due to the fact that Chinese regions are increasingly faced with fatal infectious diseases, the publication specifies. The presence of plague foci in the provinces adjacent to Mongolia is indicated as one of the reasons.
Head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Virology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of NSU, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Netesov told Izvestia that Russia also has a laboratory of a similar profile in Khabarovsk.
Experts agree that such laboratories are fraught with potential danger.
