IMF and World Bank to hold meetings in virtual format due to coronavirus

The international monetary Fund and the World Bank will hold Spring meetings in a “virtual format,” refusing to hold face-to-face meetings in Washington because of concerns about the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

The spring meetings of the two financial institutions are scheduled for April 17-19.

This usually leads to about 10,000 government officials, businessmen, civil society representatives, and journalists from around the world flooding the two blocks in downtown Washington where their headquarters are located.

Some experts say that the decision to move the Spring meetings to a virtual format may become permanent, as it will save money, time and reduce the “carbon footprint” of these institutions
