Huawei will unveil three foldable smartphones this year

At the end of February, Huawei unveiled its new foldable smartphone, the Mate X2. But sources say this is far from the only new flexible screen gadget this year.

DigiTimes, citing industry sources, writes that Huawei will introduce three more foldable smartphones in the second half of 2021. From this, we can conclude that the US sanctions hit this category not as hard as the flagships, the announcement of which is constantly being postponed.

In addition, the new models are likely to receive more affordable price tags to drive demand for foldable smartphones. Recall that the same Mate X2 cannot be called inexpensive – it costs about $2800.

Sources also report that in the second half of the year we will see new items from other manufacturers. For example, according to rumors, in the summer, Samsung will introduce the new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 2 (or Galaxy Z Flip 3).

With the availability of new models, Digitimes Research estimates that global shipments of foldable smartphones are likely to reach 7 million units in 2021. For comparison, only 2.8 million units were shipped a year earlier.
