During an interview with HBO President Casey Blois after the Emmy Awards, HBO President Casey Blois was asked a question about House of the Dragon. He confirmed that the channel’s plans were not affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the series is preparing to launch in 2022. The order for the spin-off of the series “Game of Thrones” appeared in 2019. The showrunners of the 10-episode project will be Ryan Kondal and Miguel Sapochnik. They and George Martin will act as executive producers. House of the Dragon will tell the story of House Targaryen 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Casting for the series is currently underway. Other details about the project were not disclosed. Earlier, George Martin wrote on his blog that working on a prequel would not prevent him from completing the anticipated Winds of Winter novel:
I expect to be involved to some extent in the production of House of the Dragon. If all goes well, I might even write the scripts for some of the episodes, as I did for the first four seasons of Game of Thrones. But let me be clear about something … I’m not taking on any scripts until I finish Winds of Winter. Winter is still close, and the book remains my priority, as much as I would like to write the series.
