Harvard Virologists: Coronavirus re-pandemic could happen before 2024

A second pandemic of the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus can happen until 2024, and the existing quarantine can last until 2022. This was written by SCMP with reference to virologists from the Harvard University School of Public Health.

According to forecasts, the existing quarantine – with small interruptions and exemptions – can be extended until 2022. Such a development will be relevant if virologists do not develop a vaccine against coronavirus, or if states do not increase the capacity of their medical systems.

Moreover, even in the case of a natural attenuation of the epidemic, when one carrier of the virus infects on average less than one person, the possibility of a new outbreak of coronavirus infection will be very great until 2024.

Researchers note that it is not yet clear whether patients with COVID-19 develop immunity to coronavirus and how long it can last. At Harvard, it is noted that if the immunity lasts for more than five years, then it may be possible to almost completely get rid of the virus.

At the same time, WHO experts, despite statements by leaders of some countries about a possible weakening of quarantine, also say that it will be possible to defeat coronavirus only with the help of a vaccine.
