UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the world not to split over trade disputes between China and the United States – this would be fraught with a geostrategic and military split.
He called for doing everything possible to avoid a new cold war.
“We are moving in a very dangerous direction. Our world cannot afford a future in which two major economic powers split the planet, and a great rift will occur, after which each of these powers will have its trade and financial rules, the Internet and artificial intelligence resources,” Guterres said, speaking during the general debate of the UN General Assembly session.
“The technological and economic split can inevitably turn into a geostrategic and military split. We must avoid this at all costs,” he said.
