Guterres made an appeal to the UN countries on the case of the MH17 crash

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appealed to partner countries to cooperate in the investigation into the crash of the Malaysian Boeing flight MH17.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations asks for assistance “to establish responsibility and justice in the name of those who died as a result of the downed flight MH17 crash,” Guterres was quoted by his deputy official representative Farhan Haq.

The Malaysian Boeing plane crash occurred in July 2014, when the liner was making flight MH17 on the route Amsterdam – Kuala Lumpur. All 298 people on board the plane were killed. According to the Ukrainian authorities, the militia is responsible for the incident. Representatives of the self-proclaimed republics, in turn, said that they did not have the means that would allow them to shoot down an aircraft at such an altitude.

The investigation of the crash of the liner is being carried out by the joint investigation group (SSG), which is headed by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Netherlands. Russia is not involved in the investigation.

The investigation claims that Boeing was shot down from the Buk anti-aircraft missile system, which allegedly could belong to the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces from Kursk. The lawyers of the suspects, in this case, have repeatedly requested a forensic medical examination from the crash site, but the Dutch prosecutor’s office rejected these requests.

The defendants in the case are Russian citizens Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinsky, Oleg Pulatov, and Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko. The court postponed the hearing on this case until September.
