Greece, Cyprus, and Israel will build a gas pipeline in the Mediterranean Sea

EastMed gas pipeline will be the longest in the world.

Greece, Cyprus, and Israel have signed an agreement on the construction of the Eastern Mediterranean gas pipeline-EastMed. The signing ceremony was held in Athens.

The length of the gas pipeline will be almost two thousand kilometers. It will be the longest in the world. EastMed is intended for gas supplies from Israel and Cyprus via the island of Crete to Greece. The project is expected to help Europe diversify its energy resources.

The cost of the project is about seven billion dollars. Completion is planned for 2025-2026.

Turkey opposed the construction of EastMed, as there is a Trans-Anatolian pipeline in the region, which supplies gas to Greece from Azerbaijan. Representatives of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel assure that the project will not turn against the interests of Ankara.
