Great-great-grandmother Meghan Markle was a maid in Windsor

Meghan met and began a romantic relationship with Prince Harry in 2016, but as it turns out, her connection to Windsor Palace goes back a long way. 160 years in the past, to be precise.

The journalists of the Mirror portal found out that Megan’s distant relative was on the list of servants at Windsor Palace. She was a cook.

According to the database of employees of the Royal Household, in 1856, an employee named Mary Bird was listed in the weekly paybook. She was the wife of Thomas Byrd, an Irish shoemaker.

In 1862, the couple moved to Malta, where they had children. 20 years later, after the death of her husband, Mary Bird and their children moved to New Hampshire. One of the couple’s two offspring was Meghan Markle’s great-grandmother, also named Mary Bird.
