The police of the canton of Geneva during the Russian-American summit will be provided with military equipment, the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper reported, citing the police.
It is noted that the practice of renting police equipment from the Swiss army is not new, in recent years it is resorted to more often. Renting a vehicle or tank from the army costs 95 francs per day and 10 francs per kilometer traveled.
As the police told the newspaper, especially on the occasion of the summit, the Geneva police will receive an additional “many” armored vehicles.
According to the newspaper, in the coming week it will be known whether the army will be officially deployed in Geneva, as it was in 2014 during the conference on Syria in Montreux, Switzerland. The relevant decision must be made by the Swiss Federal Council (Government). The summit of the leaders of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin, and Joe Biden, will be held in Geneva on June 16.
